The New England Patriots will usher in a new era of football after ending the 2023 season with the third-worst record in the NFL (4-13). The Patriots mutually parted ways with long-time head coach Bill Belichick and hired Jerod Mayo to be the new guy in charge.

Mayo and the Patriots’ front office have a tall task ahead of them, as New England has a ton of holes on both sides of the ball that won’t be fixed in one offseason. One way to fix some of their issues is through the NFL Draft.

It is a pivotal draft for the Patriots as they’re set to have the third overall pick, which puts them in a position to take one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s class.

Below, we’ll look at each pick New England has in the NFL draft, including any compensatory selections and trades that helped them gain additional capital.

Patriots 2024 Draft Trades

The Patriots have seven picks in the 2024 draft, but only one pick was acquired in a trade. Here’s how New England got that pick:

  • The Patriots traded former first-round pick wide receiver N’Keal Harry in July 2022 to the Chicago Bears for a 2024 seventh-round pick (No. 228)

Compensatory Picks

The Patriots are projected to have zero compensatory draft picks. Compensatory picks are given out to teams across the league based on qualifying free agents signed or lost the previous offseason. These selections won’t be announced until later in the offseason.

Team Needs

After a rough 2023 season, the Patriots have a lot of holes to fix on both sides of the ball with new head coach Jerod Mayo. It won’t be a quick fix for New England, but it’s a good first step. Here are some of the positions that the Patriots should look to address in the draft:

  • Quarterback
  • Wide Receiver
  • Edge Rusher
  • Linebacker
  • Offensive Line
  • Safety
  • Running Back
