Patriots Extend Key Defender Ahead of the 2024 Season
It's been an offseason full of change for the New England Patriots. They have Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf now running the show as they look to rebuild this roster.
They have a nice mix of young players and veterans on the squad but it will still be an uphill climb for this crew in 2024.
The first training camp practice went down on Wednesday but the Patriots just extended a key member of their defense before the season starts in September.
Patriots News: Jabrill Peppers and Pats Agree on Extension
According to ESPN's Field Yates, New England and safety Jabrill Peppers are finalizing a three-year extension of $24 million that can go up to $30 million.
Peppers has been a reliable defender in New England, lining up all over the field. He excels around the line of scrimmage as a violent tackler while being a solid defender in pass coverage.
In 2023, the former Michigan standout finished with 78 total tackles, five tackles for loss, eight pass deflections, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
He also was the fifth highest-ranked safety, per PFF, with an 87.3 overall grade. In addition, he had the second-highest run defense grade (90.7). Peppers allowed a career-low 132 yards on 34 targets in coverage last year.
Now he's locked in for the Pats for the foreseeable future which is a massive win for the team.
Peppers now joins Josh Uche, Kyle Dugger, Hunter Henry, Mike Onwenu, Kendrick Bourne, Christian Barmore, Anfernee Jennings, and Rhamondre Stevenson as players who were re-signed by New England this offseason.
