Patriots Get Encouraging Mac Jones Injury Update After Loss
By Tyler Maher
Week 10 was not a good performance for New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. Not only was he held to just 170 passing yards and was sacked five times, but he also got benched after throwing a crushing interception late in the fourth quarter that cost the Patriots a go-ahead touchdown.
Even worse, Jones was spotted going to the X-ray room after the game, making New England fans concerned that he had suffered a significant injury during the game.
Mac Jones Injury Update
During his post-game interview with the media, Jones was asked about the injury. Fortunately, he provided some clarity on his status with an encouraging update for Patriots fans.
Jones revealed that he suffered a bruise, but is otherwise fine.
This is good news heading into New England's bye week. With a full two weeks off before the team's next game against the New York Giants, Jones should be rested and ready to go, assuming he still has the starting job.
It's unclear whether the bruise was why Bill Belichick decided to bench Jones after his interception. With the Patriots still trailing 10-6 late in the fourth quarter, Belichick inserted backup QB Bailey Zappe with a chance to win the game, Zappe couldn't come through, either, throwing a game-sealing interception into triple coverage.
Given Zappe's atrocious performance this year, it would be hard for Belichick to justify starting him over Jones in Week 12 if Jones is healthy. Jones deserves a chance to redeem himself against the lowly Giants. If he can't do that, then it should be time for a change.
