Patriots' Injury Report Will Cost Mac Jones His Job vs. Raiders
I am not exactly a Mac Jones apologist, but even the most ardent haters (I wouldn't say I'm one of those, either) have gotta feel for the guy this week. This could be his last chance to hang onto the starting quarterback job, and he's not exactly being set up for success.
The already struggling Patriots offensive line is absolutely decimated by injury this week, and Jones is going to have absolutely no protection after Friday's injury report dropped.
Patriots' Offensive Line Decimated By Injury
The Patriots have already ruled out Cole Strange, Riley Reiff and Tyrone Wheatley Jr. for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. They’ve also listed Trent Brown and Mike Onwenu as questionable.
If you're keeping score at home, that means the following linemen are the only options:
- David Andrew
- Vederian Lowe
- Calvin Anderson
- Atonio Mafi
- Sidy Sow
- Trent Brown (questionable)
- Mike Onwenu (questionable)
There is no combination of those five names that you want to see listed as a starting lineup.
Patriots fans can be overly critical of their own players, but that's not the case when we complain about this line. The starting unit on Sunday could be one of the worst that any NFL team has fielded in a long time.
Pro Football Focus has graded 263 offensive linemen so far this season.FIVE Patriots who will possibly be active (Onwenu, Lowe, Anderson, Mafi and Sow) rank in the bottom 27. At least three, and possibly four of them will be starting on Sunday.
So honestly, what hope does Mac Jones have? His offensive line is in shambles and both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Demario Davis have been ruled out at wide receiver too. So he's gonna have no time to throw, and also nobody to throw the ball to.
Not an ideal combination for a quarterback.
