The New England Patriots are kicking off their 2024 NFL season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals. What was already projected to be a difficult matchup for the new-look Patriots has only gotten tougher over the last week as New England is dealing with significant injuries to multiple starters.

The Patriots already have key starters like Kendrick Bourne, Christian Barmore, and Cole Strange on the PUP list to begin the season. On top of that, starting offensive lineman Sidy Sow missed the last two weeks of practice and will likely miss Sunday's game. Running back Antonio Gibson, and star defender Josh Uche are listed as questionable.

Now, there is a new name surprisingly added to the latest injury report. Star safety Jabrill Peppers was a late addition to the report with a hip injury and is now listed as questionable to play.

Peppers' absence could provide an opportunity for Dell Pettus, who was the most surprising inclusion in the 53-man roster. The undrafted free agent rookie out of Troy would presumably get significant snaps and could even get the starting nod in Peppers' absence.

Fortunately for the Patriots, Cincinnati is also dealing with major potential absences ahead of Week 1. Their two biggest offensive weapons Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins may not be suiting up. Higgins is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury and Chase is still in the middle of contract negotiations with the team.

Regardless of the Bengals' injury and contractual concerns, they are heavy favorites against the Patriots. New England is a +320 underdog against Cincinnati on FanDuel Sportsbook.
