Patriots MVP From Week 1 Trolls Bengals on Instagram After Upset Win
By Ryan Bunton
After an impressive Week 1 showing against the Cincinnati Bengals, Keion White took to Instagram to troll the Bengals after a 16-10 New England win.
In the video posted to Instagram, the defensive end included a TikTok clip of a confident Cincinnati fan who was certainly left disappointed after White played a key role in ruining his Sunday.
White made his presence felt almost immediately on Sunday, strip-sacking Joe Burrow on only the second play from scrimmage. He continued to be disruptive in the Bengals' backfield throughout the game, racking up 2.5 sacks and four tackles including two tackles for loss.
After a strong training camp and offseason, the Patriots were counting on White to take another important step forward in his sophomore season. White was selected by New England in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Patriots' first two selections in that draft — White and first-round corner Christian Gonzalez — were both huge pieces in Sunday's upset win. Gonzalez helped limit star Cincinnati receiver Ja'Marr Chase to only three catches for 14 yards with Gonzalez in coverage.
The expected Year 2 jump from White also played into New England's comfortability moving on from edge rusher Matthew Judon.
Following the game, White expressed how the locker room felt about first-year head coach Jerod Mayo, who picked up a victory in his very first game at the helm:
"As a guy who’s been there...who’s won the championships… you kinda just respect that… He wouldn’t have you do anything he hasn’t done or wouldn’t do himself… He’s relatable… you wanna run through a brick wall for him… And that’s something special I feel like."

White wasn't the only one who was in a trolling mood after Sunday's big win, as New England's official Twitter account also kept the receipts on game predictions for the Week 1 clash, in which 10 analysts all projected a Cincinnati win. The Patriots' social media team put a spin on the classic Bengals' "Who Dey".
The Patriots have basked in the glory of their Week 1 upset win, but they will quickly have to shift their attention to Week 2 and welcoming the Seattle Seahawks into Gillette Stadium for the home opener.
