Patriots Shockingly Cut Veteran After Best Season of His Career
Cutdown day is one of the toughest days of the year for players around the NFL. That dreaded day was on Aug. 27, when teams had to get the roster to 53 men before the 4 p.m. ET deadline.
Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf are running the ship for the first time in their careers so they had to make some tough decisions on who they want on the team.
As they were releasing guys, they decided to part ways with a defender who was coming off the best year of his career.
Patriots News: New England Let Go of Shaun Wade
According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the Patriots are waiving cornerback Shaun Wade. The 25-year-old has been in New England since 2021 and played his best year of football in 2023.
The Ohio State product finished with 23 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one pass deflection in 14 games and six starts.
Even though he came off a career year, the Patriots wanted to go in a different direction. The cornerback room in New England currently has Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, Marco Wilson, and Marcellas Dial Jr.
That didn't leave much room for Wade to work with and he was let go. If he clears waivers, he may be an option for the practice squad but you never know in the NFL.
It's going to be an uphill climb for the Patriots this year. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, New England has the fourth-best odds to win the AFC East at +2600.
