Patriots Sign Veteran Defensive Depth Piece Following the Draft
By Jovan Alford
The 2024 NFL Draft might be in the rearview mirror, but the New England Patriots haven’t stopped making additions to their 90-man roster.
The Patriots signed multiple undrafted free agents immediately after the draft, inked Christian Barmore to an extension, and added a vet to the defense. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots signed outside linebacker Oshane Ximines.
Reiss adds that Ximines has a connection to new Patriots assistant coach Dew Wilkins as they were both with the New York Giants.
The 27-year-old linebacker has spent four seasons with the Giants, who drafted him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The former Old Dominion standout didn’t do much in New York as he was a core special teams player.
The 6-foot-4 EDGE only played in three games last season with the Giants after being bounced back and forth from the practice squad. Ximines was released by New York in November. In his four-year Giants career, Ximinies had 71 combined tackles, 24 quarterback hits, nine tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.
Patriots fans shouldn’t have a ton of expectations for Ximines, who has played more special teams snaps than on defense. That said, he gives them more depth at linebacker and off the edge as they head in training camp and the preseason.
