With the 2024 NFL Draft a little over a month away, there’s a ton of attention on the top three picks in the first round. It’s expected the Chicago Bears will take Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick.

However, there isn’t similar clarity for the second and third overall picks, which are held by the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots. FanDuel Sportsbook has Drake Maye as the overwhelming favorite (-150) to be selected with the third overall pick by the Patriots.

However, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Pats go elsewhere at No. 3 overall, which includes a potential trade. Pats fans saw New England Director of College Scouting Camren Williams like a tweet on Twitter/X that implies Maye will be a Minnesota Viking and be selected with the Nos. 2 or 3 picks.

It’s not farfetched to think that the Vikings could do business with the Patriots, as Minnesota has two first-round picks (11th and 23rd). New England has a veteran backup quarterback in Jacoby Brissett and could use the extra draft capital to add talent to their roster.

However, it might be hard for New England to move off of No. 3, especially if they like Maye or Daniels, as the next best QB options in the draft are J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix Jr.

Penix Jr. and Nix are right now viewed as second-round picks, while McCarthy has seen his stock rise over the last few weeks.

Nonetheless, the Patriots must be smart with what they do at No. 3 because the selection will change the franchise’s trajectory for better or worse.
