The New England Patriots' OTA workouts officially come to a close this week and will lead into the team's mandatory minicamp, which is scheduled for June 11-13. The latter provides the Patriots one last look at the players currently on the 90-man roster before a month-long layoff ahead of training camp.

These offseason workouts are important for New England as first-year head coach Jerod Mayo determines what kind of players he wants to fill out his squad with.

As it turns out, Mayo has identified one recent draft pick who doesn't appear to be a fit.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Pats have "informed" offensive lineman Andrew Stueber that they plan to release him. The fact Stueber didn't even make it through the entire OTA program shows how strongly Mayo believes this roster spot could be better spent on someone else.

Stueber was a seventh-round dart throw by New England during the 2022 draft out of Michigan. Coming out of college while measuring just under 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, Stueber had an imposing frame that could've helped him catch on as a diamond in the rough.

However, the lineman -- who struggled with injuries at Michigan -- quickly landed on the injured reserve list as a rookie after suffering a torn hamstring. That ailment cost him the 2022 season and put him behind in his NFL development.

The Patriots then decided to release him the following summer but re-signed him to the practice squad ahead of Week 1. He saw a late-season call-up to the active roster, though he never played.

Stueber had one more chance this summer to earn a spot on the roster, yet it's clear the Patriots are done with this experiment. It remains to be seen if the Wolverines alum will make his NFL debut in 2024 with a different squad.
