Pats Reportedly Split on Draft Plan for No. 3 Pick
The New England Patriots own the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft that takes place in April. There are new voices in Foxborough running the show with Jerod Mayo as the new head man in charge.
That pick will most likely be used to improve a lackluster offensive unit. This past season, the Patriots had one of the worst offenses in the league. They struggled to consistently move the ball and put up points.
Even though we are a few months away from the draft, there are some tough decisions to make on how New England will use that No. 3 overall pick.
According to the Athletic's Jeff Howe, if Eliot Wolf is leading the draft process, the Patriots will definitely consider selecting a left tackle with the No. 3 overall pick.
Building a strong offensive line is the foundation of every successful offense and New England may have that vision in mind. But they need a capable signal-caller under center.
They haven't had an opportunity to select this high in the NFL Draft since 1994. The Patriots could use this draft pick to hand-select their next quarterback of the future. It looks like Jonathan Kraft is leaning towards that direction.
The Boston Globe's Ben Volin talked about it on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Mazz.”
Volin said,"I’ve been told that Jonathan really wants a quarterback. I think Jerod Mayo is probably leaning in that direction. They need one and they’ve never had this opportunity to get one this high since Drew Bledsoe 30 years ago.”
Volin also added he thinks the longtime team president will "have his finger on the button" regarding the third overall pick.
This will be an interesting couple of months as more rumors will come out as we get closer to the draft.
