The New England Patriots have entered a new era under first-time head coach Jerod Mayo. The expectations are lower than usual as the team is trying to evaluate what they have in their hands.

Yet, the Patriots are still trying to give their prized rookie quarterback Drake Maye the best offensive ecosystem to work with. They understandably don't want to make the same mistake they did with Mac Jones, so they want to surround their talented gunslinger with as much talent as possible.

With that objective in mind, they targeted Brandon Aiyuk on the trade market but failed to poach him from the 49ers. Fortunately for them, new players hit the trade block in the NFL on a regular basis. The latest pass-catcher rumored to be available could be the perfect fit in Foxborough.

The potential trade partner for the Patriots in this scenario would be the Washington Commanders. Similarly going through a rebuild this season, the Commanders might have an intriguing wide receiver on the trade block. Reading the tea leaves from training camp, talented receiver Jahan Dotson might be the odd man out in Washington.

It was widely expected that the former first-round pick out of Penn State would be the clear WR2 behind Terry McLaurin. Dotson has had a promising start to his career, putting up 84 catches, 1,041 yards, and 11 touchdowns in 29 games so far. However, new head coach Dan Quinn seemingly opened the WR2 competition with multiple candidates vying for the role.

This naturally caused a ton of speculation among NFL watchers about Dotson's availability. Even though Dotson has mostly run with the first team during practices, his performance hasn't necessarily impressed. He led all skill players with 32 snaps in the first preseason game, leading to questions about how safe his starting job actually is.

This presents an opportunity for the Patriots. Dotson is only 24 years old and has shown intriguing upside throughout his college and NFL years. He could grow with this Patriots core and be an integral part of the future in New England.
