Projecting the Patriots Wide Receiver Depth Chart Following JuJu Smith-Schuster Release
3. Ja'Lynn Polk
The Patriots' third-best receiver is likely one that hasn't even played an NFL game yet.
After selecting Maye third overall in April, the Patriots got their new QB some help by using the No. 37 pick on Ja'Lynn Polk. The former Washington product is coming off a career year with the Huskies that saw him amass 1,159 yards and nine TDs while playing a big role in the program advancing to the CFP National Championship Game.
With a solid combination of body strength and control, the 6-foot-2 Polk has the tools to become a force in the NFL. Hopefully, an early connection with his quarterbacks will help him realize his potential sooner rather than later.
4. Javon Baker
Polk wasn't the only wideout who the Patriots added at the 2024 NFL Draft.
Just two rounds later, New England also used the No. 110 selection on Javon Baker. The up-and-coming WR spent the last two seasons at UCF after transferring from Alabama. The change in scenery paid off in spades as he went on to tally over 1,900 yards and 12 TDs across 27 games with the Knights.
Even though fourth-rounders don't always see key playing time as rookies, that might not be the case for Baker. The gifted pass-catcher has impressed the Patriots coaching staff and media alike since the beginning of summer workouts and was even targeted four times during the preseason opener.
Interestingly enough, Baker and Polk have identical odds of being named the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (+10000 on FanDuel Sportsbook). Only time will tell if one gets an edge over the other once the race finally begins in September.
