The NFL Trade Deadline is still two weeks away, but it's already becoming clear which teams are going to be buyers and sellers at the deadline.

For the first time in a long time, the New England Patriots should be sellers. They're 1-5 after three straight losses and are almost certainly going to lose again in Week 7 against the far superior Buffalo Bills. They'd need to go 8-3 from this point forward to have a realistic shot at a playoff spot, and with their current roster, that's not going to happen.

That means it's time to start trading veterans and expiring contracts for draft picks that can help the team going forward. The Patriots need to rebuild, and the sooner they start that process the better.

Patriots Trade Rumors

One proposed trade from The Athletic has New England sending outside linebacker Josh Uche to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a conditional second-round pick.

This deal would be a good fit for both sides. The Jaguars could use another pass rusher, and Uche is a good one. He racked up 11.5 sacks and 14 QB hits last year. His production has slipped this season, but he still has 2.0 sacks, 6 tackles (5 solo) and 3 QB hits.

Uche is also going to be a free agent after this season, so there's a good chance the Patriots move on from him this offseason anyway. They might as well get something in return for him rather than letting him walk for nothing.

Meanwhile, it would behoove New England to start stockpiling draft picks for 2024. Uche isn't going to save the Patriots' season, and trading him while his value is still relatively high from last year makes a lot of sense.

This is a move that Bill Belichick should absolutely consider making if he wants to help make his team better next year and beyond.
