Brayan Bello and the Boston Red Sox worked out a contract extension to keep him in the organization for quite a while. The back-loaded contract guarantees him $55 million and will have him in Boston at least through the 2029 season, with a club option in 2030.

Bello's teammates are thrilled to have him for the long haul, and fans are excited to have something good to discuss. This offseason has been negative for the Red Sox, with internal disagreements and unkept promises from ownership. Getting this extension done was much needed for the vibes in camp.

The Red Sox chose to get this deal done now because of the promise they see in Bello's future. He has received high praise from the Red Sox front office, and it's been well-earned so far this spring. But nobody's words on Bello are as strong as teammate Rafael Devers' analysis.

Devers Compares Bello To Pedro

When asked about the contract extension, Devers was glad for his teammate and saw the bright future ahead. He says that watching Bello pitch reminds him of watching Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez.

Martinez's number 45 is retired by the Red Sox, and rightfully so. His seven years in Boston helped end one of the longest championship droughts in history and broke the Curse of the Great Bambino. He made four All-Star teams and won back-to-back Cy Young Awards with the Red Sox. Martinez was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2015.

If Devers' assessment of Bello is correct, Red Sox fans would absolutely sign up for a duplicate performance of Pedro from him. He is just beginning his second full season in the majors in 2024, so there's a long way to go. But all eyes will be on him as he builds his future in Boston.
