Hampered by injuries to start the season, Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers will now undergo an MRI on his knee. Devers, who has already missed six games this season, was initially struggling through a nagging shoulder injury, but was able to avoid a stint on the injured list. Apparently knee issues have now also entered the fold for the 27-year-old.

In year two of a 10-year, $313.5 million deal, Devers' lack of availability at the start of a season is highly concerning for a player that should be the face of the franchise and getting paid over $300 million.

Devers addressed the shoulder injury speaking to reporters on April 12, revealing that it could be traced back to Spring Training:

"I’ve been feeling it since Spring Training. But every time I was swinging, I was feeling it a little bit more and more. I hope it doesn't keep bothering me after these two or three days but that's something I can't control. "

Devers was also involved in a scary collision in short left field on Monday that left outfielder Tyler O'Neill in concussion protocol and in need of eight stitches.

In his 48 at-bats this season, Devers is hitting .188 with two home runs and 5 RBI. If he is able to get healthier, hopefully his low offensive production to start the season can get back to the level Red Sox fans expect of him.
