Former New England Patriots wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster has already found a new opportunity ahead of Week 1 of the 2024 regular season.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign the veteran wide receiver. Smith-Schuster is returning to Kansas City after spending last season and training camp with the Patriots.

New England shockingly cut the 27-year-old receiver after its first preseason game earlier this month against the Carolina Panthers. Smith-Schuster had a disappointing 2023 season with the Pats, which was mired in poor play and injury.

The veteran wideout recorded 29 receptions (47 receptions) for 260 yards and a touchdown in 11 games. Smith-Schuster’s performance last season in New England was a far cry from what we saw in his only season with the Chiefs.

The Patriots signed Smith-Schuster to a three-year, $25.5 million deal last offseason to be their No. 1 wide receiver, but it never came to fruition.

However, the former Patriots receiver will try to reignite his career with the Chiefs as they likely will be without Marquise Brown for the start of the 2024 season. In his lone season in Kansas City, Smith-Schuster had 78 receptions (101 targets) for 933 yards and three touchdowns.

Patriots fans would’ve loved to see that Smith-Schuster last season as it would’ve helped a struggling scoring offense that only scored 13.9 points per game. However, it wasn’t meant to be in New England, which has moved on with its youth movement at wide receiver, led by rookie Ja’Lynn Polk and second-year wideout Demario Douglas.
