MLB's annual GM meetings kicked off in Arizona on Tuesday, and the Boston Red Sox are already making some noise.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, Red Sox leaders met with the agent of star free agent pitcher Jordan Montgomery.

Jordan Montgomery Red Sox Rumors

Montgomery, of course, just helped the Texas Rangers win the World Series. He figures to be a hot commodity this offseason after going 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in October for the Rangers, proving he has what it takes to deliver on the game's biggest stage.

The lefty's big month came on the heels of an impressive regular season, too. Montgomery went 10-11 with a 3.20 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP over a career-high 188 2/3 innings this year, splitting time between the Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Red Sox are already familiar with Montgomery, who pitched for the New York Yankees from 2017-2022. Montgomery performed well in the Big Apple, going 22-20 with a 3.94 ERA and an 8.6 K/9 in six seasons with the Yankees.

The veteran southpaw turns 31 next month, but he looks like a good fit for Boston based on his overall track record, AL East experience and postseason resume. Adding him to Chris Sale and Brayan Bello would give the Red Sox a solid top half of their rotation.

And unlike some of the other top starters on the market, Montgomery isn't going to break the bank. He'll be expensive, of course, but is expected to fetch a contract in the five-year, $100 million range. If Boston signs him at that price, there will still be plenty of money left over to address the team's other issues.

A lot of teams will be interested in Montgomery, so the Red Sox may need to offer him a bit more to close the deal. Is new Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow willing to go above and beyond for a World Series hero, or will he decide to look elsewhere? Time will tell.
