Red Sox Star to Return to Lineup on Tuesday While Cooper DFA'd
By Ryan Bunton
Nagged by injuries all season long, the Boston Red Sox received a positive injury update on Tuesday, activating Masataka Yoshida from the 10-Day Injured List. Yoshida was placed on the IL on May 1, retroactive to April 29, with a left thumb strain.
To open up a roster spot for Yoshida, the club completed the corresponding move of designating Garrett Cooper for assignment.
This is the second DFA of the season for Cooper, a 2022 all-star, who was acquired by the Red Sox from the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations back on April 27. In 24 games with Boston, Cooper hit .171 with no home runs and only five RBI, while striking out 22 teams - nearly a strikeout per game clip. Prior to his injury, Yoshida was hitting .275 with two home runs and 11 RBI, also in 24 games.
Yoshida will be in the lineup for Tuesday night's game at Fenway Park against the Philadelphia Phillies. Yoshida will be Boston's designated hitter and hit fifth.
