Red Sox Tease Big Extensions in the Works
By Cem Yolbulan
Opening Day is here and baseball fans across the country rejoice as they prepare to watch their teams for another season. It's usually the day when offseason activity ends and contract extension talks are tabled.
It turns out, however, that the Boston Red Sox might have a few more moves left in them.
Team president Sam Kennedy joined Fenway Rundown on Wednesday and hinted at potential contract extensions coming for Boston's young core.
Red Sox Rumors: Big Contract Extensions May Be Incoming
The Red Sox already locked up their future ace Brayan Bello on a six-year, $55 million extension. This was one of the few bright moments of the Red Sox offseason. And it looks like the team is trying to get similar deals done with the rest of their promising young players.
"Internally, the formula of signing and extending your known entities, your known talent, is really important and there’s lots of those discussions that have gone on. That’s all I can say publicly, but I think I’m hopeful that we’ll be in a position to get something across the line here soon."

Boston has recently taken on the approach of developing and re-signing young talent on team-friendly deals rather than targeting older, more expensive veterans. This strategy might be frustrating to fans at times but it also helped the Red Sox build one of the best young talent pipelines in the league.
The main extension target for the Red Sox is probably future star Triston Casas. The two sides were reportedly not close to a deal earlier in the winter but the young first baseman is already one of the best hitters on the team and is worth a long-term lucrative deal.
Vaughn Grissom and Tanner Houck are other extension candidates that Red Sox fans would love to see.
