2- The Infamous All-Star Game Tunnel Meeting With Kevin Durant

At the 2019 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, footage emerged of Irving (still a Celtic at the time) and Kevin Durant talking in the hallway. The footage immediately launched speculation that the two, both impending free agents at the team, were planning on joining forces during the upcoming free agency period. Towards the end of the video, it appears that Irving says "two max slots", referring to the Brooklyn Nets' ability to sign both superstars to max contracts.

Afterwards, Irving then scolded the media and public for suggesting that he and Durant were talking about teaming up, protesting that “It’s a video of me and one of my best friends talking. And then it turns out to be a dissection of a free-agency meeting?... That’s what disconnects me from all that s---."

Well, despite Irving's denial and treatment of the public as idiots for that suggestion, Durant confirmed in 2020 that the speculation around the subject of their conversation was 100 percent correct.

Obviously, Irving making plans, while still a member of the Celtics, to team up with Durant with another team rightfully rubbed many Boston fans the wrong way. The fact that Irving was previously on record as vowing to remain a Celtic, and that he scolded anyone who suggested that he and Durant were hatching a plan, only exacerbated the situation.
