The New England Patriots are in a bad place right now, and people have been quick to kick them while they're down. The Pats keep finding new ways to embarrass themselves every week, which is why they find themselves at 1-5 heading into a brutal Week 7 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
ESPN analyst Rex Ryan, who coached against New England for nearly two decades, showed no mercy in his analysis of its brutal start on Monday morning's episode of "Get Up."
Rex Ryan Patriots Criticism
Ryan didn't hold back when asked to summarize the state of the Patriots. "This team sucks...I'm telling you they stink. They absolutely stink."
The former Buffalo Bills and New York Jets head coach knows what he's talking about, as he presided over a 4-win Jets team in 2014 and finished his NFL coaching career with a losing record.
Ryan used to be the butt of Patriots' fans jokes for a long time, but now he's the one laughing. His old nemesis Bill Belichick is completely floundering, leaving many to wonder whether he'll survive the season.
It's one thing to be bad, but it's another to be quitting, and that's what Ryan accused New England of doing. "Where's the fight? Where's the energy? Where's the passion? I don't see it."
He might be on to something there. How else do you explain the Patriots repeatedly coming out flat and digging themselves in giant holes? How else do you explain the back-to-back blowout losses at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints? New England certainly didn't put up much of a fight in those games.
There have been a lot of low points for the Patriots over the last month, and Ryan calling them out is just the latest humiliating example.
