Rhamondre Stevenson Takes Clear Stance on His Future With Patriots
By Jovan Alford
New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson is looking to a have bounceback 2024 season after taking a step back in 2023.
The former fourth-round pick had 619 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 156 carries. He also added 38 receptions (51 targets) for 238 yards in 12 games. Stevenson was sidelined for the final five games of the regular season because of a high ankle sprain.
With the ankle sprain behind, Stevenson should be a major factor in the Patriots’ offense under new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
The veteran running back spoke with the media on Tuesday and discussed the possibility of signing an extension with New England.
“I’d love to be here for countless amount of years,” Stevenson said (h/t Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network). Stevenson also added that contract talks could ramp up with the draft is over.
The Patriots won’t be looking for Stevenson to shoulder the entire offensive load this season as they signed Antonio Gibson in free agency to a three-year, $11.2 million contract. Gibson is the better pass catcher out of the backfield, but that shouldn’t diminish Stevenson’s role.
With the Patriots not spending all of their cap space this offseason, they should have enough to re-sign Stevenson to an extension as he’s been outstanding in his short time in New England.
The Patriots will be looking for him to hopefully return to his 2022 form this season, where he had a career-high 1,040 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 210 carries. Stevenson also produced 69 receptions (88 targets) for 421 yards and a touchdown.
