Star Agrees to Contract Extension With Celtics

Jrue Holiday is here to stay. On Wednesday night, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the 15-year NBA vet had agreed to a four-year, $135 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics. Holiday held a player option for the 2024-25 season for $37 million, which he will be declining in order to sign his new extension.
Holiday's new deal will keep in a Celtics uniform through the 2027-28 season, when he will turn 37.
Per NBA rules, a player cannot sign an extension until six months following a trade. Subsequently, the earliest date that Holiday and the C's would have been able to come to an agreement was April 1. It didn't take long after that date for the two sides to
Holiday arrived in Boston as part of an offseason blockbuster trade from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Robert Williams III, Malcolm Brogdon, and two future first-round selections. Holiday had been acquired by Portland in a deal four days prior that sent superstar Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Back in January, Holiday had expressed his desire to remain in Boston to Brian Robb of MassLive:

The 17th overall pick in 2009 out of UCLA, has 12.5 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 4.9 assists per game in 68 games for Boston in his first season with the team.
An NBA champion in 2021, the Celtics are hoping that the veteran can play a pivotal role in their title chase this season.
