Seven NFL head coaching vacancies were filled this offseason, but legendary head coach Bill Belichick was still left in the unemployment line after the eight-time Super Bowl champion failed to land a new gig following his departure from the New England Patriots in January.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, University of Washington assistants Brennan Carroll (son of Pete Carroll) and Steve Belichick both spoke about the similarities and differences between themselves and their Super Bowl-winning fathers. Belichick's response elicited laughter throughout the room cracking: "I've got a job and he doesn't."

The younger Belichick was hired by Washington as their defensive coordinator on Feb. 6 by new Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch. Fisch served as the Patriots quarterbacks coach in 2020 before leaving to become head coach at the University of Arizona. Washington is coming off of an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Steve Belichick spent 12 seasons on his father's staff in New England, winning three Super Bowls on the Patriots sideline. The younger Belichick assumed defensive play calling duties at times, and most recently served as the team's outside linebackers coach from 2020-23. Despite his father's departure from the organization, Brian Belichick is set to remain on the New England coachings staff in 2024 as the Patriots safeties coach.

With Bill Belichick almost assuredly out of a coaching job this season, the door remains open for him to take on a broadcasting gig.
