Surprise Team Linked to Potential Mac Jones Trade
By Cem Yolbulan
The quarterback situation is the most important question the New England Patriots have to resolve in the offseason. A QB selection with their third-overall pick is all but guaranteed, paving the way for a Mac Jones trade.
The former first-round pick in the 2021 draft, Jones has failed to live up to the expectations he set for himself after an impressive rookie season. The next two years left plenty to be desired as the Patriots offense fell off a cliff. This likely signals the end of the Mac Jones era in New England but the 25-year-old could have plenty of suitors on the market.
One of those suitors is a surprise team that was recently thrown out: the Seattle Seahawks.
Mac Jones Has An Intriguing New Suitor On the Trade Market
According to Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal, Seattle is a "team to keep an eye on for Mac Jones". He points out the fact that the Seahawks general manager John Schneider liked Jones coming out of college and could choose to take a flyer on him considering their uncertain quarterback situation.
"I think John Schneider is a guy who looks back at his college evaluations of players. I think that he liked Mac Jones coming out. I think a lot of people are wondering what exactly happened to him here, and they’re probably doing due diligence with the Patriots on that."

The Seahawks fit makes some sense for both sides. They just fired their long-time head coach Pete Carroll and entering a rebuild with Mike MacDonald as the play-caller. They have 33-year-old Geno Smith as a placeholder at the quarterback. As good as Smith has been there, he is likely not the long-term solution. Bringing a young, talented signal-caller like Jones to compete with Smith could prove to be valuable for Seattle in the long run.
