While Wynn Resorts is mostly known for their lavish in-person offerings, they made a point of entering the online and mobile sports betting markets to capitalize on another revenue source.

WynnBET never really cracked the list of the biggest sportsbooks in the industry, and the latest news is a sign that they may not even be around much longer:

This week, WynnBET filed a notice of intent to cease operations in Massachusetts, per Casino.org.

Wynn began pulling out of states hastily over the summer, beginning work to leave Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia while also mentioning that New York and Michigan were "under review."

The stated goal was to focus on states in which they operate in-person casinos. States like Massachusetts, where they operate the Encore Boston Harbor.

This plan, too, seems to have fizzled.

WynnBET's official website does still list Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York as options, while announcing that they are "closing operations immediately" in Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Early in the sports betting legalization process it seemed like getting licensed was almost a guarantee for profit. That has changed drastically over the last couple of years, and with Wynn having undergone some significant changes (including Craig Billings taking over as the new CEO in 2022), it seems that they've decided the juice isn't worth the squeeze for online and mobile betting.
