Red Sox Could Solve First Base Dilemma via Trade with NL Bottomfeeder

With the short right-field corner in Fenway, and the pull-hitter that is Nathaniel Lowe, he can become a lefty Alex Bregman.

Former World Series champion Nathaniel Lowe is an excellent first baseman. However, he's rotting in the Nation's capital. The 29-year-old is currently in his seventh season of work, this time with the Washington Nationals. He started with the Red Sox division rival, Tampa Bay Rays, but was traded to the Texas Rangers in the offseason after the infamously shortened 2020 season.

He broke out with the stick in 2022, batting .302 and hitting 27 home runs with an OPS of .851 and an OPS+ of 139. The latter two stats were the highest of his career thus far. But his fielding is excellent as well, winning a Gold Glove the following season when they won the World Series in 2023.

As for Lowe himself, he's having a bit of a down year, but that may be despite everything. He was traded to the Nationals this past offseason, looking for a fresh start. He's been mid-tier this season, but that's still passable for the Red Sox to take on by the deadline. He'll be a free agent at the end of the year, so why not try him out?

With the short right-field corner in Fenway, and the pull-hitter that is Nathaniel Lowe, he can become a lefty Alex Bregman, where the ballpark is his playhouse. A potential 30-HR hitter who's still young can produce heavily for the Red Sox this year, especially with Rafael Devers being traded away earlier this month. He's batting .374 this season when pulling the ball to right field, so this could very well be a steal for Boston if they want to buy at the deadline.

A sneaky trade for sure, but it's all hypothetical until it happens. Sometimes, all the team needs is a little tweak, and it could happen with Lowe added to their lineup.
