Red Sox Fans Are Losing Patience with Struggling Bat

If it feels like I am always writing about Triston Casas whenever the struggling Red Sox come up, it is because he is off to a horrendous start to the 2025 season. Through 18 games, Triston has come to bat 64 times and has 11 hits. These numbers are good for a .172 batting average with one home run, three RBIs, and 18 strikeouts.

On Thursday, the Red Sox chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, appeared on The Greg Hill Show and was asked about Triston Casas’ performance to start the year.

"You know, I think what I know is that Triston is a big part of what we’re going to do here. And I think we saw, even just through the course of the series in Tampa, much better at bats. He’s getting his A-swing off. He was not chasing pitches outside of the strike zone the last couple of nights. Didn’t have as many balls fall in as he would like, and we would like, but he’s hitting the ball hard."

While his numbers are down across the board to start the season, the Red Sox do not have a better option at the big league level and may stick with Triston for the time being and wait for him to come out of his slump.

Casas had a similar start to his rookie season in 2023, as he finished the season with a .263 batting average, 24 home runs, and 54 RBIs. These stats led to Triston finishing third in the American League’s Rookie of the Year voting for that season.

Time will tell if Craig Breslow will go back on his word. If Casas' poor start to the season continues, and the Red Sox offense continues to struggle, Breslow may look outside the organization for an upgrade at first base.

With the fanbase's frustrations with the 25-year-old first baseman growing, what the organization do with Casas will be fascinating to watch.
