It's a great time to be alive in Boston, much on the contrary to June 15th. The Boston Red Sox have done what the fans had deemed an impossible task: They signed their superstar player to an extension. Roman Anthony is the prized possession that the Red Sox will be keeping for a long time.
The contract goes as follows: 8 years, worth $130 million with a $5 million signing bonus, and a club option for 2034. His payments will be gradually increasing every year. Next year, he will be owed just $2 million, but up to the end of his contract in 2033, he'll be owed $29 million. If the team keeps him in 2034, he'll be owed $30 million.
Additionally, he'll be given hotel suites on the road in 2031 if he wins Rookie of the Year this year. If he doesn't, he'll still receive those road suites from the next year, from 2032 to 2034. Somewhere in there has to be a trip to the North Pole so his future children can get their head start on Christmas presents. Possibly a couple of World Series rings delivered by Santa before the regular season as well.
Roman Anthony on his mindset signing the extension:

“I’ve never gone out thinking, ‘Hey, I’m playing for a contract. I’m playing for money.’ I don’t play this game for money, I play this game because I love it, and I want to win. And I want to win in Boston.” pic.twitter.com/cakgx8FV7d
Roman Anthony Delivers Perfect Message to Red Sox Fans After Extension
When asked about signing his extension, he said, "I've never gone out thinking, ‘Hey, I’m playing for a contract. I’m playing for money.’ I don’t play this game for money. I play this game because I love it, and I want to win. And I want to win in Boston.” Guess what, Anthony? Boston agrees.
Everyone can see the talent that Anthony displays. He's made an immediate impact and has shifted the team's traction on the season. The Red Sox have gone 32-17 since the 21-year-old was called up, and he's hitting .336 in his last 32 games with a .923 OPS, 13 doubles, 14 RBIs, and a .487 slugging percentage.
Anthony wants to win a championship with Boston, so this is a warning sign for Breslow and ownership: SPEND MORE ON THE TEAM! Extend Alex Bregman, go after a second starter in the offseason, and fix that logjam in the outfield.
