After a long stay in Double-A Portland, Franklin Arias has finally been promoted to Triple-A.
This comes after a slew of promotions given to players over the last few days. First, it was infield prospect Mason White from High-A to Double-A. Then, it was right-hander Trenner O'Donnell from Low-A to High-A. Afterwards, top prospect right-hander Blake Wehunt got the promotion to Triple-A, while top prospect right-hander Sadbiel Delzine got the promotion from FCL to Low-A.
Now, with Triple-A having 27/28 roster spots filled, Arias will slide right in as their 28th man. As of right now, Portland will be the affiliate with 27/28 spots filled, so keep tabs on another promotion in a day or so.
As for Arias, his promotion was more than well-deserved. It was well overdue, if you will.
Franklin Arias should ball out in Triple-A Worcester
Staying with Portland since the start of the 2026 season, he slashed .318/.407/.587 with 19 home runs, 52 RBIs, 17 doubles, and only 46 strikeouts to his 37 walks in 283 at-bats, while having an OPS of .994. However, his OPS was well over 1.000 for most of the season up until after the All-Star Break.
Arias was well known for his advanced contact and his even better defense, but wasn't known for his power at the plate. Many scouts had believed that he'd never truly tap into that power. It wasn't like he needed to, given that he was already ranked the #1 prospect after Payton Tolle, Roman Anthony, and Marcelo Mayer all graduated from their prospect status.
But he did, and he raised his stock big time.
He started the season in the middle of the pack in most Top 100 prospect rankings across all of baseball. But now? He's sitting at #7 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list.
But many question the big picture out of all this, especially with the trade deadline coming up. What is their mission? Are they going to shop Arias? Will this ruin his stock? Will he perform well into August if he stays?
Those answers can only come with time.
However, let's not think too hard about where this will land. There's a presumption that he'll stay with the team for the long term, especially given the fact that they do view him as a future piece of their core. Whether they trade shortstop Marcelo Mayer to make room for Arias is another question entirely.
But there's one thing that can be said for right now, and that's the fact that Arias' dream of getting to the bigs is now only 46.5 miles away.
