The Boston Red Sox's blockbuster trade of Rafael Devers has left fans reeling. Despite the loss of this major talent, the Red Sox are in luck when it comes to possible additions, as there's always no shortage of players in the majors who could be on the move.
One potential candidate is Kyle Tucker, who has been one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball. Before being traded to the Chicago Cubs this offseason, Tucker had firmly established himself as a cornerstone player for the Houston Astros, earning All-Star nods in the last three seasons.
This season is Tucker's contract year, and he has continued to produce. Through 75 games with the Cubs, the 28-year-old is batting .283 with 14 home runs and a 3.2 WAR, and is well on his way to a fourth consecutive All-Star game appearance.
Tucker is set to hit the free agency market after this season, and according to New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are one of the teams he expects to pursue the 28-year-old outfielder.

Following the deal trade that sent Devers to the San Francisco Giants, the Red Sox are well below the luxury tax for next season, which is projected to be at $244 million. Per Spotrac, the team has roughly $196 million committed in payroll.
Tucker’s next contract won’t be cheap and could easily rival contracts recently awarded to elite outfielders Juan Soto and Bryce Harper. While signing Tucker to a lofty contract would greatly improve the team’s lineup, the signing only makes sense if one of the team’s current outfielders, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, or Ceddanne Rafaela, is traded.
Still, the potential reward is tantalizing. If the Sox were to sign Tucker, the team would be acquiring a legitimate five-tool player in his prime who can lead a retooling roster back into contention in the American League.
