Even though the Boston Red Sox have gotten out to a slow start in the 2025 season, it hasn’t stopped the Red Sox from handing out contract extensions to two deserving players.
The Red Sox announced a six-year, $170 million contract extension for left-handed starting pitcher Garrett Crochet earlier this week. Then, on Wednesday, the Red Sox locked down one of their top prospects for the foreseeable future.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Boston signed infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell to an eight-year contract extension, which includes club options for the 2033 and 2034 seasons. Christopher Smith of MassLive.com also reports that Campbell’s extension will be $60 million guaranteed.

Campbell made the Red Sox’s Opening Day roster out of Spring Training, and not too long after his MLB debut, rumors started swirling about a potential extension for the 22-year-old.
The young infielder is already off to a great start in his MLB career, slashing .375/.500/.688 with two doubles, a home run, and two RBI across 20 plate appearances.
Campbell entered this season as the No. 7 prospect on MLB.com’s pre-2025 rankings, which is nothing to look past. That said, the Red Sox’s front office hopes the former 2023 fourth-round pick will continue to develop and hopefully become an All-Star caliber player in the near future.
Campbell didn’t spend much time in the minor leagues to start his professional baseball career. In 2023, the Chattanooga, TN native played 22 combined games in rookie ball and Single-A Greenville.
Then, in 2024, Campbell played 119 combined games between three different levels, ultimately ending the year at Triple-A Worcester.
With the WooSox, the young infielder slugged .286 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 85 plate appearances. He also dominated at Double-A, hitting .362 with 17 doubles, eight home runs, and 35 RBI across 255 plate appearances.
The Red Sox hope Campbell’s play in the minors and his hot start in the majors are a promising sign of things to come for the organization.
