Red Sox Get Massive Update on Roki Sasaki Rumors
Craig Breslow’s pursuit of adding starting pitching has gotten off to a great start. By making a trade on the last day of the winter meetings with the Chicago White Sox for Garret Crochet, his team now has a bona fide ace to lead the pitching staff.
However, according to reports, Breslow is not finished making moves for starting pitching.
The Boston Red Sox have a rich history when it comes to Japanese pitchers. From Hideo Nomo to Daisuke Matsuzaka to Koji Uehara, the team has had some of the league’s most impactful Japanese pitchers.
According to Jonathan Mayo from MLB.com, the team is interested in adding to the list and is interested in making a pitch to Japanese phenom, Roki Sasaki. Last season, Sasaki finished with a 10-5 record with a 2.35 ERA while striking out 129 batters in 111 innings.
Sasaki, formerly of the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPO (Nippon Professional Baseball Organization), Japan’s top baseball league, was posted by his team on December 9th. This means that Sasaki is an international free agent and Major League teams are able to sign him to their rosters.
If acquired, Sasaki could potentially slot right into Alex Cora’s pitching rotation as the number two starter behind newly acquired ace, Garret Crochet, and form a very formidable 1-2 punch for the Red Sox.
