The Boston Red Sox have been struggling to find pitchers who can be sustainable. Kutter Crawford has suffered a major setback and is now out for the rest of the season due to getting wrist surgery. Tanner Houck has regressed massively, struggling to find his footing during HIS rehab outings. Offseason acquisition Walker Buehler was a boom or bust signing, and so far, he's been a bust, at minimum.
Sometimes, with a team that can't find any luck with pitchers, they'll have to look within to find their savior.
While many pitchers such as Luis Perales, David Sandlin, and Connelly Early could be promising, there's one that's been outshining all of them: #15 prospect LHP Peyton Tolle.
The dude is great and has amazing stuff in his arsenal. He passes the eye test, being 6-foot-6, 250 lbs, and throws a mean fastball. He also has a mustache that will put Dennis Eckersley to shame. When he debuted with High-A Greenville, he struck out 79 batters in 49.2 innings pitched. Tolle is dominating as it can get in the minors. Now, in his 2 games so far in AA Portland, he's already recorded 17 strikeouts. During his debut in Portland, he struck out nine in five innings.
It's a perfect time to call him up and give him a chance in July, especially considering some of the pitching struggles.
By the way, this is his FIRST season as a pro. He started in High-A for 11 games, then got promoted to AA, and nothing has changed. He could very well be a future All-Star for Boston.
While this is nice and all, let's look at one negative. He has command issues with his secondary pitches. If he can buff those out soon, he'll be called up to AAA Worcester in no time. The Red Sox love his stuff, and there's a very good reason for it. Once he's able to perfect his craft, there's no stopping this train from blowing past every batter that faces him.
