The Boston Red Sox have been on a roll as of late, both in the office and on the field. They just recently extended Roman Anthony for eight years, worth $130 million, and everything seems like it's coming together. Like Lou Brown says in Major League (1989), "We're contenders now."

Former 2024 second-round pick Peyton Tolle could just be another piece due for a big contract extension in the near future, along with Anthony. He's just that good. With an outstanding August, he'll undoubtedly be called up in September when the call-ups come due.

Red Sox RHP/DH Peyton Tolle Needs Strong August to Get Called Up in September

Tolle is recording a 2.93 ERA across 11 games (10 starts) this season, coming up from both High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland. In Greenville, he maintained a 3.62 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched. He was called up to Portland in June, and in just six games, he posted a 1.67 ERA with 37 strikeouts in just 27 innings pitched. That's an outstanding season for him, and it's moved him from the middle of the pack to the top 5 in the Red Sox farm system in just three months.

Tolle is a workhorse and a passionate player, much like Marcus Phillips, the second pick the Red Sox took in the draft this year. He was fastball-heavy in his tendencies as a pitcher coming out of TCU (Texas Christian). Still, the Red Sox, who are now emphasizing breaking pitches and a complete arsenal of deception over just velocity, have made him focus more on his secondaries, much like his slider and changeup, and a newfound cutter.

As for his frame, he stands at 6'5" and weighs 250 lbs, and his fastball is one of the most unhittable pitches thrown by anyone in the minors. Many are comparing him to the next Randy Johnson, and he very well could be if things pan out right for him.

If he gets called up in September, he'll more than likely be called out of the bullpen until he's proven himself, which, with his mentality, wouldn't be too long a wait.
