Many Boston fans are outraged by the Rafael Devers trade, and their feelings are justified. With Devers being gone, it's clear the Red Sox are looking to save as much salary as possible while hoping to reload for 2026. With this in mind, Trevor Story is the first guy that comes to everyone's mind when wanting to shed salary.
Trevor Story May Be Next in Line to Be Traded After Rafael Devers
Story has been hot and cold this season. A very streaky hitter who slumped so hard that his average dipped to .214, which was about .100 less than what he was hitting at the beginning of the season. Over this past week and a half, he's been slugging the ball now. He's not trying to lift the ball out as he's just trying to put the ball in play. So far, that adjustment has been working for him.
Since June 7th, he's been hitting .371, slugging 2 HRs, 10 RBIs, with a slugging percentage of .629 and an OPS of 1.017. Also, since this date, he's only had one hitless appearance. For GM Craig Breslow, it'll be good to see his value rise before he has to get rid of his contract.
As for GM Craig Breslow, he is suffering some serious backlash from the Boston media and the fans. He's the most wanted man in the city right now, and everyone is in an outrage. They have a Zoom call today to address the media about the Devers' trade, but that can only do so much damage control.
If Breslow and company want to get rid of the Chaim Bloom contracts, then this is the route they should continue with. Shed salary, and dedicate to the future. However, this is going to cause an uproar from the fanbase because they should've been going places this year.
But now this may just be the probable sign of the beginning of a longer ride through the tunnel of contention. As of now, that window has officially been shut.
