The Boston Red Sox are looking to get back to being one of the best teams in the league. The Red Sox have failed to make the playoffs for the third straight season. Last season, they went 81-81 and watched as the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles were in the postseason.

It was worse to watch the Yankees play in the World Series. A place Boston hasn't been to since 2018.

Boston is looking to make some quality additions this offseason and it started with the acquisition of right-hander Walker Buehler.

Boston had an interest in adding Teoscar Hernandez but he re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a three-year, $66 million deal. With Hernandez no longer available, two All-Star bats have been floated as two candidates for the Red Sox.

Red Sox Rumors: Two All-Stars Are Named as Potential Targets

According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado could be two targets for Boston as they look to add a right-handed bat to the lineup.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that Boston "remains interested" in Bregman. The 30-year-old has spent his entire nine-year career with the Houston Astros and was a quality playmaker for them. He has a career .272 batting average with 191 home runs and 663 RBI.

The Astros reportedly offered Bregman a six-year contract for approximately $156 million but Bregman is looking for a deal over $200 million.

Whether Boston offers him that kind of money remains to be seen, but adding a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series Champion would be a smart choice.

As for Arenado, he is available for trade by the St. Louis Cardinals. The 33-year-old is an eight-time All-Star with tremendous power to all parts of the diamond. In his career, his slash line is .285/.342/.515. In addition, he had 341 home runs and 1,132 RBI.

Boston would have to muster up a compelling trade package to land Arenado but with a big-time 2025 season on the way, there may not be a better option on the trade market.
