Red Sox rookie starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins has been dominant on the mound against the Yankees this season, earning two victories against New York in one week’s time.

On Saturday night at Fenway Park, Dobbins went six scoreless innings allowing only two hits and two walks and had five strikeouts. The two hits allowed were both only singles and went on to shutdown 14 of the final 15 batters he saw in the box.

Dobbins was in complete control of the mound. He put down Aaron Judge three times, two times being on strikeouts.

After the game, Dobbins talked about his plan for attacking Judge, saying he used the success that Garrett Crochet had from Friday night as a model, but put his own flavor to it and wanted to keep a balanced attack.

“Crochet has an electric fastball. You know, I can throw it hard, but the shape isn’t quite as elite. So we knew we had better weapons to go at him with. So, [I] felt like we did a good job of kinda keeping a balanced attack throughout the order. So just overall game-planning and strategy-wise, we executed a little bit better tonight.”

Dobbins has been impressive since being called up and named a starter in Boston. The 25 year old has a 4-1 record with a 3.74 ERA over 55.1 innings with 42 strikeouts, 11 walks, and a 1.19 WHIP. The impressive outings is something that manager Alex Cora has noticed as well.

“You start looking at the numbers, the WHIP is down, the ERA’s coming down, he doesn’t walk people- he attacks. He was under control the whole night.”

It’s worth mentioning that the five games Dobbins has pitched, he’s gone through six innings in three of them, further giving Boston quality outings when he’s on the mound.

Dobbins made some noise last week that blew up like a wildfire in New York, saying that he’d retire if the Yankees gave him a contract. Dobbins silenced the critics by shutting down the Yankees for the second time in a week.

If all goes as planned, Dobbins will make his next start against San Francisco during the upcoming nine-game road trip.
