The Boston Red Sox could be one of the more active teams later this month at the MLB trade deadline.
Entering Sunday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Red Sox are only four games out of first place in the AL East and currently have the second spot in the AL wild card locked in.
If the Red Sox continue to play well after the All-Star break, they could be buyers at the trade deadline at the end of the month. With that being said, Boston isn’t waiting until the deadline to make a trade.
Red Sox Send Veteran Catcher Blake Sabol Packing to the White Sox
On Saturday, the Red Sox traded veteran catcher Blake Sabol to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, according to his player profile page on MiLB.com.

The 27-year-old catcher was quickly assigned to the White Sox’s Triple-A affiliate (Charlotte Knights) on Sunday. The Red Sox designated Sabol for assignment on June 1, and he was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester on June 5.
In 43 games with Worcester, the left-handed hitting catcher hit a mediocre .167 at the plate with three home runs and 17 RBI.
Sabol joined Boston earlier this offseason as he was acquired in a trade from the San Francisco Giants in January. Sabol didn’t spend much time with the big league club, as he only played in eight games.
The 27-year-old catcher slashed a disappointing .125/.167/.188 with a double, an RBI, and seven strikeouts.
It’s not surprising that the Red Sox eventually cut ties with Sabol, as rookie Carlos Narváez and Connor Wong have done an adequate job this season.
Narváez is hitting .273 with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 73 games, while Wong is slugging .143 with an RBI. Wong needs to be better at the plate, but as long as Narváez continues to play well, Boston can survive.
Lastly, Sabol will look to get on track with the White Sox’s Triple-A affiliate and hopefully find his way back to the minors.
