The 2024-25 NBA playoffs are almost here, meaning it won't be long before the Boston Celtics must defend their championship. Fortunately, Joe Mazzulla & Co.'s outlook is promising as the Celtics enter the regular season's final stretch with the second-best NBA Finals odds (+185) on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Even though there's a good chance that Celtics fans will have plenty to celebrate soon, one of the team's rising stars had some of his own celebrating following a huge announcement on Wednesday.

Celtics' JD Davison Named NBA G League MVP for 2024-25 Season

The NBA G League has named two-way Celtics guard JD Davison the 2024-25 season's Most Valuable Player. The former 2022 second-round pick's breakout performance played a big role in Maine finishing as the No. 3 seed in the G League's Eastern Conference.

Since joining the Celtics organization nearly three years ago, Davison's performances have improved with each passing season. The latest campaign was the former Alabama product's best to date as he averaged 25.1 points, 7.7 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while shooting 48.1% from the floor and 33.3% on 4.9 three-point attempts across 30 outings.

Davison's electric performance continued into Maine's playoff debut against the Capital City Go-Go on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1 guard couldn't be stopped, scoring a game-high 38 points while adding 12 rebounds for a double-double as Maine won 115-95 to advance to the next stage.

Time will tell if Davison's breakout G League performance helps him land an NBA roster spot with the Celtics next season. He's struggled to produce whenever he's been called up in the last three seasons, averaging only 1.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists while playing fewer than five minutes per game across 32 career outings.

For now, Davison will be focused on helping his team continue to advance through the NBA G League postseason. Maine will return to action on Thursday in a semifinal showdown with the Westchester Knicks, which will air on TUBI at 7 p.m. ET.
