Second-year quarterback Drake Maye finally has a No. 1 playmaker in his arsenal after the New England Patriots signed former All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs earlier this week. The six-time 1,000-yard receiver has been among the NFL's best pass-catchers throughout the last decade and could be the missing ingredient to take Maye's game to the next level.
Patriots fans have spent the last few days welcoming Diggs to the team. The 31-year-old WR gained the New England fanbase's respect throughout the many times he terrorized him as a member of the Buffalo Bills, and the feeling is clearly mutual based on the former Maryland Terrapin's recent call to action.
Diggs Asking Patriots Fans to Help Decide New Jersey Number
Moving to a new city means that Diggs must figure out a lot of things, including his next jersey number. While some players tend to stick with the same digits throughout their career, Diggs hopped on Instagram Saturday night to ask Patriots fans which number they want him to wear (h/t @LosTalksPats).

Diggs has been known for wearing a couple of jersey numbers throughout his football career.
The Gaithersburg, MD native wore No. 1 throughout his time at the University of Maryland before converting to No. 14 once his NFL career began with the Minnesota Vikings. He maintained those digits before switching back to No. 1 when he was traded to the Houston Texans last offseason — a decision that cost him nearly $100,000.
Regarding his new Patriots teammates, both of Diggs' favorite numbers are occupied. Second-year WR Ja'Lynn Polk is currently wearing No. 1, while newly-signed linebacker and former Mike Vrabel pupil Robert Spillane is rocking No. 14. Although either player could potentially offer their number up, the fact that Diggs is polling fans suggests that he's open to maintaining the status quo.
At the end of the day, Diggs will likely entertain Patriots fans regardless of what number he's wearing.
The four-time Pro Bowl pass-catcher's career has dazzled his supporters to the tune of 857 catches for 10,491 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns in 144 games. Changing numbers last year also didn't hold him back, considering that his 47-496-3 stat line through eight games put him on pace for a seventh-straight 1,000-yard performance before an ACL tear cut his campaign short.
Fortunately, Diggs' recovery has gone off without a hitch and he's already settling into his new surroundings nicely. Assuming that he can successfully return to form, it won't be long before Gillette Stadium is packed with fans wearing his jersey — regardless of which number is on it.
