With all the money being thrown around this year, and Alex Bregman possibly opting out of his current deal with the Boston Red Sox, many believe that Trevor Story won't opt out of his contract. Well, guess what?
He can't get out of it even if he wanted to.
Trevor Story Will Not Find a Better Deal Than His Current Red Sox Contract
With the rest of his contract, Story is owed $55 million for the next two seasons. Even with a limited shortstop market in free agency, Story is not going to get any better deal than he does right now. It's not for the Red Sox, but it's been the case for Story's bank account.
Everyone can agree that the Story contract was a mess until this season, where he has finally been having an injury-free season and is playing to his potential. He's batting .259, with 23 home runs, 88 RBIs, 24 doubles, 137 hits, and 30 walks in 566 plate appearances. He's leading the team in stolen bases and is at a remarkable 25-for-25 in that category. He's struck out 158 times, leading the team in that category as well, but he's always been that way.
In a more advanced stats conversation, he's only walking at a 5.3% rate, and his HR% is the highest it's been in a 60-game span since the turn of the decade at 4.1%. His hard-hit ball rate is the highest it's been since 2019 at 47.4%.
It's by far a re-revelation, if you will. He's a comeback player of the year candidate and most likely will win it.
He's also become a locker room leader alongside Jarren Duran and Alex Bregman. His presence helps the Red Sox locker room in more ways than one. He's a passionate player and is one of the better players the Red Sox have truly got right now.
Story needs the Red Sox, and the Red Sox need him.
