New England Patriots' left tackle Will Campbell seems to be locked in heading into his second season in the NFL. There have been multiple photos of him working out with fellow NFL tackles Tristan Wirfs and Lane Johnson, two of the best in the business. This could be exactly what Campbell needs after his struggles in the playoffs.
Before he injured his knee, he looked very promising as Drake Maye's blind side protector, but in the playoffs, it was clear he was in way over his head. So let's dive into what this off-season training could mean for Campbell, and how he can get back to his pre-injury form.
Will Campbell is working with two of the top tackles in football
Tristan Wirfs and Lane Johnson are two of the best protectors in the NFL, and with Campbell being such a young player with a lot to learn, he could use some good mentors.
He has been working out with a crew of proven NFL linemen, and this could have a great impact on his year two leap. With a full off-season of rehab to his injured knee, working alongside and learning from some of the best tackles in the business, Campbell could be in for a massive season. This would be more than ideal for the entire Patriots organization.
Left tackle is one of the most difficult positions to fill at the NFL level, and if the former fourth overall pick can figure it out, the Patriots will be in a spectacular position.
Patriots fans shouldn't be concerned about Will Campbell's struggles
Obviously, the way Campbell played in the playoffs was cause for concern. However, it was clear that he rushed back from his knee injury and didn't have the same anchor or play strength as he did pre-injury.
Even when Campbell was at LSU, we saw an incredibly aggressive and strong player, and after he tore a ligament in his knee, he played with a completely different demeanor. However, as stated before, with a completely healed knee and learning different techniques and sets from current NFL stars, we could see the LSU product get back to form.
That true alpha mentality where he thrives on violence, exactly what you need in the trenches. And exactly what made me love Campbell coming out of the NFL Draft in 2025. Campbell's violence and passion are the intangibles that you want to see from a leader in your offensive line room, and I believe those will come back with a vengeance when a fully healthy Campbell takes the field in September.
