As a result of getting Giancarlo Stanton back from injury, the Yankees kicked this former Red Sox infielder to the curb.

The Boston Red Sox had themselves a weekend for the ages. Sweeping the Yankees for the first time since 2023, and trading their longest-tenured player in Rafael Devers within a three hour span made for one of the most memorable days (good or bad, you decide) in recent Red Sox history. Nonetheless, the team has won six straight games and are in a playoff spot as of Tuesday.

Holding the third-highest scoring offense in the MLB to only four runs in three games is a feat that should be celebrated by the Red Sox pitching staff, knowing how much of a struggle it was to keep runs off the board before New York came to town.

With the Yankees reeling as of late, losing their last four games and being shut out in their last two, the team did receive some good news when it comes to one of their best power bats in Giancarlo Stanton. Getting Stanton back in the lineup for his season debut on Monday night ultimately led to the end of this former Red Sox infielders' time in the Bronx.

Pablo Reyes DFA'd by Yankees After Red Sox Series

The former Red Sox utility man played in 24 games for the Yankees before getting the boot, seeing time at second and third base, along with both corner outfield spots and designated hitter. With Stanton back in the fold for the Red Sox rival, Reyes will be in search of his fourth team in two years.

In corresponding moves, the Yankees reinstated Stanton after the slugger nursed injuries to both of his elbows for the first three months of the season. It was a scary injury at times for Stanton, who avoided season-ending surgery, but instead will give the Yankees a boost as the All-Star break approaches.

As much as Red Sox fans want the best for Reyes after his career-best 2023 season with the team, the writing was on the wall for the 32-year-old. Pablo slashed just .194/.242/.226 with 10 strikeouts in pinstripes, failing to recover any of the magic he displayed with the Red Sox.

Reyes made his last appearance for New York in Friday's series opener at Fenway, coming in as a defensive replacement to DJ LeMahieu in the 10th inning of the Red Sox's 2-1 walkoff win.

With a career .245/.305 /.342 slash line in over 250 games played for five MLB clubs, Reyes has seen better days. After signing with the Pirates in 2012 as an international free agent, Reyes has played for the Brewers, Athletics and Mets in addition to the Red Sox and Yankees.

It remains to be seen if Reyes will receive another chance given his age and recent struggles with the Yankees, but his veteran presence and positional flexibility could appeal to teams in desperation.

As for the Red Sox, they will look for Walker Buehler to pitch well as the club eyes its seventh straight win (second in the post-Devers era) on Tuesday against the Mariners. Devers will reportedly make his debut for the Giants on Tuesday against the Guardians, as Red Sox fans will watch closely at what he does in new threads.
