New England Patriots: Former Coach Thinks Rex Burkhead Will Shine in Foxboro

The newest New England Patriots running back, Rex Burkhead, earned some high praise from one of his former Cincinnati coaches.

At Tuesday’s annual league meeting in Phoenix, Hue Jackson had high praise for the newest New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead.

Now the Cleveland Browns head coach, Jackson was a former position coach and offensive coordinator for Burkhead with the Cincinnati Bengals. In all the two spent three years together in the NFL.

Hue Jackson was always looking for ways to get Burkhead in the mix, and even experimented with him at wide receiver prior to the 2015 season.

He’s a guy that was playing behind some very talented players, and so he’s going to get his opportunity now, and he’s going to flourish. He’s a really good player. A really good player. He’s very versatile because he’s a good runner, a good pass-catcher. He’s a good blocker. He’s very bright. He’s been a sensational special teams player there so he brings a lot of different elements to that football team,” Hue Jackson said, via Phil Perry of CSN New England."

Rex Burkhead may be Bill Belichick’s next diamond in the rough. He’s set to make more than James White and Dion Lewis combined in 2017, and he’s the first New England running back since 2010 to earn over $2 million.

Hue Jackson believed Burkhead was one of the best players on the Bengals roster in 2015, and this may be his time to show his true talents.

As of now, Burkhead is expected to be the starter in front of Lewis and White for the Patriots in 2017.
