Former Red Sox ace Josh Beckett threw a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25, it was the pitchers first no-hitter in his career. Beckett threw a staggering 128 pitches, striking out six and walking three en route to the no-no. Beckett had struggled for most of his Dodgers career, managing to stay healthy was a problem for the aging pitcher he had battled injured ribs heading into the 2014 season and before that was dealing with nerve troubles in his pitching hand. The no-hitter improved Beckett to 3-1 on the season but after that game his performance declined rapidly. The righty was put on the disabled list in July and August, and in September Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters that Beckett was shut down for the season. Beckett officially announced his retirement from baseball a month later, capping an impressive 13-year career.
