California Chrome begins Triple Crown Chase

On May 3rd the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby took place at Churchill Downs. California Chrome was favored in the days heading into the Derby and heading into the morning of the race he was listed as 5-2 favorite to capture the Kentucky Derby. Chrome beat out Commanding Curve and Danza who came in second and third place respectively in the race, pole leader Vicar’s In Trouble came in 19th place. California Chrome went on to win the Preakness Stakes on May 17th, edging out Ride on Curlin and Social Inclusion. Chrome was once again morning favorites with 3-5 odds of the Colt capturing the second leg of the Triple Crown. Chrome ultimately did not capture the Triple Crown as he ended up coming in 4th place at the Belmont Stakes, Tonalist, Commissioner, and Medal Count all came ahead of Chrome.
