New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady praised Jimmy Garoppolo’s performance against the Arizona Cardinals. The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback said the third year quarterback “was great” in the team’s 23-21 win Sunday night.

Tom Brady was not on the field when the New England Patriots battled the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday Night Football. Instead, he played the role of a fan as he watched backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo lead the Patriots to an improbable 23-21 win in Arizona.

With the victory, Garoppolo looked kind of Brady-esque in the way he managed the offense. He was 24-fo-33 for 264 yards and a nice touchdown pass to Chris Hogan on the first drive.

In an interview with Jim Gray on Westwood One on Monday night, Brady called Garoppolo’s performance as “great” and showed tremendous support of the man holding the fort while he serves his four-game suspension.  He said in the interview:

More from New England Patriots

"“I thought he was great and I thought it was a great night for him and our whole offense. I think the one thing you realize as the quarterback is everyone being in sync and being on the same page and the communication with your teammates is so critical. For us to go in there and get a win like that, it was great for…obviously our offensive football team. The defense played great. Special teams. It’s such a team sport. And Jimmy did everything he was asked to. It was a great way to start the season for our team.”"

The Patriots were able to pull together as a team.

Garoppolo was able to pull off the win despite the team missing Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots really pulled together against a team against whom they were considered heavy underdogs. The matchup was the type of game Brady would’ve flourished in, so it was great for him to see his teammates shock the NFL.  Brady added:

"“It was a great game to watch.  That’s a tough environment to play in. The team went in there and it looked like they were focused, prepared. They played well in so many areas. It was great to see the offense get off to a great start with a great first drive.”"

Jimmy Garoppolo and the Patriots will look to continue the success with the next three games at home. As for Tom Brady, he had fun sitting at home as a spectator and as a quarterback and learned a few things.  Brady said regarding watching football on TV.

"“It’s pretty amazing.  It’s a great way to just kind of watch how a lot of the flows of games are going. See lots of situations. There’s a lot to learn every week in the NFL.”"
