New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman joined Ordway, Merloni & Fauria to discuss the team’s victory over the Houston Texans.  He also talked about the upcoming game verses the Buffalo Bills and coach Bill Belichick’s coaching style.

At 3-0 and without Tom Brady, the New England Patriots are riding high and leading the AFC East.  Wide receiver Julian Edelman has been a big part of the team’s success.  He took some time to discuss the way the season has gone so far.

Joining Ordway, Merloni & Fauria on Monday, Edelman talked about how good it feels to win games under the circumstances they have.  The Patriots were able to win the first three weeks of the season with their two backup quarterbacks.

Both Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Jacoby Brissett have filled in nicely for Brady.  Their ability to step in and other players ability to step up has made winning so much more fun.  Furthermore, there is an “unbelievable” feeling throughout the locker room.

That winning feeling

“Any time you get a win in this league it feels unbelievable,” Edelman said in the interview.  “When you’re down a player with a guy hurt, or a guy is not playing who is a big-time player and you scrap and get a win, that’s just showing the mental toughness of a team.  Of course it’s good, but winning any game in this league – it doesn’t matter who is there or who is not there – it’s so satisfying because you put so much time and effort into that one game.”

Edelman also gave credit to the coaching staff or doing such a great job in team preperation.  The receiver highlighted the coach’s ability to inspire the players to buy in.  And also the winning attitude that has become contagious throughout the organization.  That starts at the top with Bill Belichick.

Praise to the coaching staff

Under the circumstances, the future Hall-of-Fame coach has put in perhaps his finest coaching job.  The Kent State product took a moment to praise his coach.  He applauded the focus he instills upon the entire coaching staff as well as the team.

“When you’re in New England, what coach does is he does a great job of making us – we ignore the whole outside of the world,” Edelman said.  “I don’t even know what news is going on in the world – which is terrible – or something that goes down because you’re so focused on the game plan that week, what we have to do, our emphasis, taking care of your body, this, that.  It’s a lot easier to get information now with Twitter, Instagram and all that stuff, but he does such a good job of helping out the young guys and guys like myself to not believing in hype.”

Belichick also does a good job turning some of that hype into bulletin board material.
